Just a few minutes ago I added the following article by Jim DeSantis to my website:
“7 Questions You Must Answer To Gain A Better Life” You can read it by clicking on the link.
I thought that the theme discussed in Jim DeSantis’ article is quite an important one that should get us thinking about what truly motivates us on the deepest level.
After taking a good look at the article, I decided to put it into the section on this website that deals with goals and goal setting.
Why did I do this, even though the actual article does not talk about the topic of goal setting at all? What the article talks about instead is self knowledge. In the article, the author Jim Desantis invites you to ask yourself some deep, searching questions about what your dreams really are.
Asking yourself these kinds of deep questions is something you need to do long before you get around to deciding what your goals might be.
You need to know what you truly, deeply want, before you can figure out how to achieve the things that will make you happy.
For example, you may be chasing the goal of success and money. But there is a part of you that has its own idea of what success really is. If you go chasing society’s definition of success, you may discover that it isn’t what you really wanted.
It’s only when you work on the dream that really matters to you that you will have the energy to keep on going in the face of obstacles.
The experiences you have while pursuing the dream that is most meaningful to you are the ones that will transform your inner self into who you really want to be. If you spend your life pursuing someone else’s idea of success, you will find that you don’t like the person you will turn into.
