Do you have far too much to do and too little time?  It's no secret that many of us today are so overwhelmed with worry and a busy schedule, that we feel right on the edge of it all falling apart.

Are you so overwhelmed with stress that you think you might have “Scatter Brain” disease?

No, Scatter Brain isn’t an official brain disease.  But being unfocussed and spread too thin can be a great drain on your brain power. If you are trying to do too much and go off in too many directions at one time, you will seriously compromise your ability to think and concentrate.

If the stress is too severe and goes on too long, eventually you may feel that you can’t think clearly at all.  And chances are, you won’t get much done either.

Something’s got to give.  You may have to drop some of your activities, or you may have to schedule more time for relaxation and rejuvenation.  You may have to stop seeing certain people, or you may have to drop your standards for a few things.

Not everyone copes well with having too much stress.  For most of us, a bit of stress adds to the spice of life.  We have a deadline to meet, and we have challenges in our workplace and in our home

In fact, when we experience a bit of short term stress, our brains put out chemicals that can actually help us to think more clearly and function better.

However, if we are faced with too many challenges, if the challenges are very severe, and if they go on for a very long time, then our brains will start to suffer.  Our bodies will start to produce chemicals that are a result of too much stress for too long a period.  Our brain cells will suffer, as well as all the systems of our body.

That is why it is worthwhile to learn more effective ways to manage stressful situations so that your brain can have the ideal environment it needs to function well.  If your life is getting too stressful, you need to find ways to reduce the stress so that you can avoid the dreaded “Scatter Brain” syndrome.

Here are a few more tips you can use to reduce the stress on your mind so that you can think more clearly.

Many people find that meditation and prayer help them to reduce the negative effects of stress.

Don’t neglect your social life when you get busy.  Spending time relaxing with your friends can be a great stress reliever. Spending time with friends can help you reconnect with a different part of yourself.

If you are facing a serious challenge in your life that is interfering with your ability to think and function mentally, talk to a trusted friend or counsellor.

During stressful periods, be sure to set aside some time to evaluate your true priorities in life.

Are you spending your time in accordance with your real priorities?  Or have you let your deepest priorities fall by the wayside?

If many of the activities you are currently busy with are not a reflection of what is truly important to you in your life, it is time to decide what you are willing to change or drop entirely from your life.
