Do you ever feel so overwhelmed with your life that your mind just keeps going in circles? Do you find it hard to remember facts, figures, dates, and appointments?
When people I know tell me that recently they have been having a hard time remembering things, the first thing I usually ask them is whether they are having a lot of stress in their lives lately. Very often, the answer is yes. Too much stress, especially when it is combined with poor sleep, is one of the common reasons that people have memory difficulties.
When you are very stressed, memory becomes difficult. It’s hard to think straight and to remember all the things you need to do and all the things you need to know when your mind just is too stressed by events.
Unfortunately, we live today in a very stressful society. Most of us work very hard and we usually don’t get nearly enough sleep or enough exercise. We don’t have much time for relaxing with our loved ones. If we don’t get a chance to relax or to burn off our stress chemicals with exercise, the stress can eventually affect many organs of our body, including our brain.
When our brain becomes affected by long term stress, we start to lose focus. We can’t think clearly or creatively, and we may start to have difficulty in remembering.
One technique that has been shown to greatly benefit our minds is the practice of some form of meditation. Meditation can still the mind and relax the body. If you are too stressed with too many commitments, and too many problems, you may find that meditation is an excellent tool to help you calm down.
Meditation can help your brain waves to become slower and this may help improve recall. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that meditation will make your brain work like a supercomputer, but it is quite likely that your memory and your learning ability will improve with regular meditation.
If you are interested in learning more about meditation, there are many, many ways to meditate. If you want to learn how to meditate, you can buy a book, take a course, or search for a private teacher. You can even learn the basics of many meditative techniques by searching on the Internet.
There are also many kinds of meditation. Some will be suited to you and some will not. Try a few different forms of meditation to see what you like best. Some common forms of meditation are based on the technique of focusing on your breathing or focusing on a specific word or sound.
If you find a form of meditation that works for you, you can receive many benefits to your body and your mind, if you practice meditating regularly. Meditation can help you lower your blood pressure, enable you to think more clearly, and cope with stress more effectively.
