Do you make a great first impression on other people?  You’ve probably heard the phrase “You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.”   The real meaning of this commonly used phrase is this:  in the first few seconds when we meet someone new, we instantly sum up that person based on a snap judgment we make about them.

We often forget that other people are constantly forming first impressions about us.  If the people we meet form a bad first impression of us, we will have a very difficult time changing their mind later.  That is why it is better to do everything we can to ensure that we make a great first impression of us.

If you aren’t paying much attention to the first impression that you make on other people, you should start to think about the way that others may be perceiving you.

How to Make a Great First Impression

The first impression really is everything. In fact, in many cases, a first impression is all you have, so you need to be sure that you make the most of it.

When you are dating, if you make a good first impression you will likely find yourself on another date with someone, but if you don't make a good first impression that will likely be the end of the union. You can do a few really simple things to make sure that you make the best impression possible.

Be Well Groomed

The worst thing that you can possibly do when you are meeting someone for the first time is not to be well groomed. Many men and women think that casual is in, and while the styles today really are casual, when you are meeting someone for the first time you need to take a little time to clean yourself up.

Take a shower, make sure that you have your hair trimmed, and make sure that you style it so that you look like you have taken some time to prepare for the date. Part of a first impression is looking like you care about your appearance.

Be Well Dressed

This goes hand in hand with being well groomed. You should definitely dress to impress.

This doesn't mean that you can't be comfortable, but it does mean that you should look like you care about whether or not the person will be attracted to you. You should keep with your own style, but be sure that you are well dressed as this will work in your favor.

This goes beyond a first impression.  You always want to dress the way a person would be proud to see you. If you wouldn't be proud to walk into a room with someone dressed like you, you should definitely reconsider your apparel.

Smell Good

Most of us see someone that we like and a few seconds later we notice the way they smell. You do not need to use so much perfume or cologne that you make everyone smell you from a mile away, but make sure that you use a little bit of a scent. This will make a good impression and it will go hand in hand with the way you look.

Of course, all of this goes along with being polite and considerate of the person that you are dating. When you put all of these things together you will give the best first impression you possibly can. This is not a guarantee that a date will go well, but you can go in knowing that you have the very best chances possible.
