You may have heard or read that if you really want to achieve your goals, you need to create a vision board.
What is a vision board exactly?
Basically a vision board is a board on which you collect images that represent some of your most important dreams. A vision board can represent your dream house, your dream lover, or your dream career. You can collect and create images that portray your ideal life.
For example, if you have a certain kind of dream house in mind, start collecting pictures from magazines that show the kind of house you want. Collect pictures of the outside and the inside of your dream house. Display various rooms and the furniture you would like to see in each room. Glue these pictures to a bulletin board or even a Bristol board.
You can also cut out pictures of yourself and put the photos of yourself in front of your dream house, and in various rooms in the house.
Then, put this vision board of your ideal house and your ideal life in a place where you can see it often.
What is the benefit of having a vision board? One important purpose is that it reminds you of what some of your dreams are.
We all have periods in our lives when we feel bogged down in drudgery. We work all day but we don’t seem to be getting anywhere. We forget what we really wanted from our life.
Sometimes we face problems in our life that are a lot bigger than just drudgery. We can get stuck in bad situations where we are overwhelmed with confusion and despair. We don’t know where to go next and how to get there.
Because many people respond very well to visual imagery, using a vision board is a good way to remember what our goals are, and why they are important to us.
A vision board can remind us of the direction we want to go. It can remind us of the rewards of going in that direction, even when the going is sometimes tough.
The pictures you put on your vision board are symbols of some of your deepest desires. They can excite you and motivate you to move towards your goals.
You can intensify your commitment to the images displayed on your vision board by writing down your goals too. Writing down your goals is a form of using affirmations. Writing down your goals daily will be far more effective than only doing it once in a while.
Don’t expect your vision board to somehow magically attract what you want without you putting any effort into getting your goals.
If your only contribution to accomplishing your goals is to create a vision board, and then do nothing else, you are not showing any true commitment to actually accomplishing your goals.
There are many people who want to believe in vision boards as if they are a tool for magically attracting what they want, with no work involved.
Although there may be a few rare people who occasionally experience the magical fulfilment of their goals after using a vision board, these events are a rare exception. Many more people will find that simply putting up a vision board does not magically make their wishes come true.
A vision board can be an inspiring reminder to focus, to work, and most important of all, to dream!
